THE FALL EYE ALLERGY SEASON WILL BE HERE SOONER THAN YOU THINK
With the middle of August comes the final few weeks of the summer season, a look ahead to Labor Day, the start of another school
year and a busier time in general for most of us. But mid-August can also mean something else for allergy sufferers: an early
start to the “fall allergy” season—a time when eye allergies can negatively impact the last few weeks of summer fun. “When fall
allergies start really depends upon the location, climate and individual reactions to pollen levels and types,” said Susan A.
Primo, OD, MPH, FAAO, director of Optometry and Vision Rehabilitation Services, program coordinator, Optometric Residency, Emory
Eye Center and professor of ophthalmology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta.

NATIONAL VISION APPOINTS ALEX WILKES AS PRESIDENT, COO PATRICK MOORE TO RETIRE
DULUTH, Ga.—National Vision Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: EYE), one of the largest optical retail companies in the U.S., has announced
the appointment of Alex Wilkes as National Vision’s president, reporting to Reade Fahs, chief executive officer of National
Vision, effective August 19, 2024. The company told VMAIL that Wilkes' role as president is a new position. This follows the
company’s announcement on July 1, 2024, of Mark Banner joining the company as chief stores officer. National Vision also announced
that Patrick Moore, the company’s chief operating officer and former chief financial officer, has shared his plans to retire at
the end of this year.

INDIES WELCOME CHILDREN’S EYE HEALTH AND SAFETY MONTH
NEW YORK—Prevent Blindness has again declared August as Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month, with the goal of educating
parents, caregivers, professionals and policymakers on the important role vision and eye health plays in children’s development.
As reported in VMAIL, Prevent Blindness is marking this month with free materials on children’s vision, including fact sheets,
social media graphics, toolkits, videos and webpages on a variety of topics about children’s vision from infancy through
adolescence. The NCCVEH provides resources on getting children ready for school, taking a child to an eye doctor, preparing a
child for wearing glasses or contact lenses and tips for preventing eye injuries.
