How George Matus founded Teal Drones

"Ordinary people succeed at extraordinarily hard things. While never having felt 'good enough,' to my knowledge, I am the youngest person ever to receive the Thiel Fellowship, the youngest CEO to receive a multi-million dollar DoD contract and now one of the youngest C-level executives of a public company. I wouldn鈥檛 trade it for the world."

George Matus leads Teal Drones as founder and CEO. After developing novel technologies on his own in high school鈥攊ncluding thrust vectoring multi-rotors, modular airframes and record endurance platforms鈥攈e founded the company with a vision of the future of drones. Since Teal鈥檚 inception in 2015, George has raised several rounds of venture capital financing, defined the company鈥檚 product roadmap, launched four American-made products to market and continues to lead the company after its acquisition by Red Cat Holdings. George is a Peter Thiel Fellow, Forbes 30 Under 30 member, was recognized by TIME magazine as one of the 30 most influential teens in America, and holds over a dozen granted patents. Learn more about George in this week's edition of the Founder Series.

"Just as every entrepreneur will tell you, there is no crystal ball or road map to successfully starting and scaling a business. No matter how diligently you futureproof your business model, there will be unexpected twists and turns along the way. That has been true in every business I鈥檝e started, and it鈥檚 been true in designing the state鈥檚 startup initiative. But I do know one thing: Utah is the place to be."
