Hey, troomi-wireless!
A special day is on the way. Any guesses what it might be? (And what we have up our sleeve?)
This Friday is World Humanitarian Day! Celebrated every year on August 19, it’s a time that’s set aside to honor humanitarians all around the world.
It commemorates those who lost their lives or sustained injuries while fulfilling their duties, acknowledges any humanitarian worker—past or present—who provided essential services to communities in need, and inspires us all to be humanitarians in our own way!
With humanitarians like Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi, and Nelson Mandela to admire, it can feel like a humanitarian’s shoes are just plain unfillable. But you don’t have to travel far and wide to change the world! You can make a difference in your community by being a humanitarian at home.
- Collect food donations for your local food bank.
- Visit with elderly residents at a nursing home.
- Make sack lunches for homeless folks.
- Help a neighbor with grocery shopping or yardwork.
- Make kits filled with hygiene products or school supplies.
- Pick up trash and learn how to properly recycle.
Nothin’ brings people together quite like service. Get the whole family involved and make this weekend a humanitarian one!
