World Migratory Bird Day is Saturday, May 11, and Three Rivers is celebrating with birding programs throughout the Park District. Take a birding hike with a naturalist, celebrate the relationship between birds and bugs, engineer your own nest, see wild songbirds safely banded and more! Learn more and register.

Throw a line at Fishing Camp!

Reel in the fun this summer at fishing camp! Register your beginner angler to learn the basics of fishing safety, knots and casting at one of our introductory camps. Or sign your more experienced young angler up for one of our Extreme Fishing Camps to try different techniques, fish in various bodies of water and hone their skills with Outdoor Recreation School staff and professionals in the fishing industry. Learn more and register.

Geocaching for Bugs

Saturday, May 11

1–2:30 p.m.
Spring Lake Regional Park

Join the Outdoor Recreation School and go on a geocaching adventure for all things buggy! Use GPS technology to explore the park. Along the way you will learn about bugs in Minnesota and find silly bug surprises and treasure. Learn more and register.

Family and Friends Rock Climbing

Baker Outdoor Learning Center

Learn climbing skills on an outdoor artificial climbing wall as you enjoy time with your family and friends. Set goals, get geared up and challenge yourself! Learn more and register.

Family Canoeing

Saturday, May 18
1–3 p.m.
Fish Lake Regional Park

Get your family out on the water with instructors from the Outdoor Recreation School. We'll learn canoeing basics including safety and paddle strokes and then enjoy exploring the lake together. Learn more and register.

Older Adult Open House

Silverwood Park

Learn more about the art and nature programs led by our staff at Silverwood Park. Join us for a free art activity, patio talk led by a naturalist, guided tour of our facility, tasty treats and coffee from our café. Learn more and register.

Try It: Camping

May 31 – June 2, June 14–16 OR July 19–21
Baker Park Reserve

Excited to try camping but don't have the gear? Join us for Try It: Camping to try out one of Minnesota's favorite pastimes and become a camper. We have the tents, stoves, sleeping pads and all the information you need to have a great weekend camping at Baker Park! Enjoy the beach, play area, hike and bike trails, Saturday naturalist programs, relaxing campground and hands-on instruction from experienced and friendly staff. Learn more and register.

Introduction to Canoeing for Women

Saturday, May 18
10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Fish Lake Regional Park

Get ready for a summer of paddling with an introduction to canoeing! Instructors from the Outdoor Recreation School will cover safety, equipment and paddle stroked. Then we'll get out on the water to practice our skills. This is a great class for beginners or those looking to brush up on skills. Women, femme and non-binary folks are welcome at this program. Learn more and register.

My Preschooler & Me: May Flowers — May 17 and 18

Discover the beauty of the natural world with your preschooler at Richardson Nature Center through free play, a craft and a naturalist led hike. Learn how spring rains help flowers and other plants grow. This program is primarily outdoors. Learn more and register.

 

SpringFest — May 18

Swing into spring at Eastman Nature Center for SpringFest 2024 with music, food and seasonal activities for all ages. Native plants for pollinators will be for sale from Minnesota Native Landscapes. Activities include pond exploration, a pollinator station, live animal shows, geocaching challenge, insect scavenger hunt, birding hikes with binoculars and more! Learn more and register.


The Secret Life of Mussels — May 18

Mussels are mysterious animals. Join us at Mississippi Gateway Regional Park to learn about their unique and sometimes strange life cycle. Dissect a mussel to learn about its body parts. Try your hand at identifying species of mussels and look for living mussels at the river's edge. Learn more and register.


Adapted Geocaching and Archery — May 19

Join the Outdoor Recreation School at French Regional Park while you try adapted archery and geocaching. This program is designed with modifications for people with cognitive or physical disabilities. This program is entirely outdoors. All participants are encouraged to bring a family member, friend, PCA or other person (for no additional charge) who can assist them with personal needs, communications and transfers as needed. Learn more and register.
