Last week I said I was excited to see what April would bring. Well, it's already brought me an adventure! Sunday morning I woke up and realized my friend Dannelle's book launch party was the next day in Madison, which is less than two hours away. I remembered how I felt when friends flew cross-country for my first book launch. Time to pay it forward. I had just enough points to get me two nights at a (really crappy) motel. I booked the room, packed up, and drove north, stopping at Rock Cut State Park to research it for Midwest State Park Adventures. (That's the second book in the Midwest Adventures series I'm publishing under The Local Tourist imprint. More on that in a future email.) As someone who's used to promoting places as I travel, it was difficult not to post pictures of the pair of herons I saw on my Monday morning hike, but I knew if I did, my friend would see them and the gig would be up. With the help of another friend, I successfully surprised Dannelle and made her cry. It was a true pleasure to see this powerhouse of a woman honored for her accomplishment, complete with ribbon cutting. She deserves it; she's using the book, 100 Things To Do in Wisconsin Before You Die, to raise money for Wisconsin charities. Her goal? To give away half a million dollars. Phenomenal. Tuesday morning, I checked out of the (really crappy) motel as soon as I could. I decided I needed a palette cleanser. Jumping on Expedia, I found an incredible deal at French Country Inn in Lake Geneva. On the way, I took what was going to be a quick detour to check out Duesterbeck's, one of two breweries in the Lake Geneva area. Not only did the brewery offer shelter from the intense storms that had whipped up, the owner was in. I got to sit with her and get the story of this business built on a family farm that's been around since the mid-1800s. I'll be writing that up soon. French Country Inn, whose story dates back to the 1880s, was lovely. So was Mars Resort, another place that's been around for awhile. For this history buff, it was just the palette cleanser I needed. These were all places I've been wanting to visit so I can round out my piece on Lake Geneva, which I'll be updating to include these gems. But first... last week I mentioned I'd have an announcement very, very soon. And I did! The next day, I emailed you about my upcoming Kickstarter. If you missed it, Mr. TLT and I are launching an audiobook of Living Landmarks of Chicago, as well as new paperback and hardcover editions with images. So now I have a favor to ask: would you follow our project? It doesn't cost anything and you don't have to back it, but the more people we get following, the more likely Kickstarter is to share this with their GIANT audience. We've got 20 followers. Can you help us get to 30? My goal is to have 100 when we launch next Tuesday. It's a big goal, but this is a project of my heart and I want it to succeed. If you're already following, THANK YOU! (I can't see who follows or else I'd thank you personally.) In case you missed it last week, here's a quick dive into some fun Chicago stories to whet your whistle: 5 Things You Didn't Know About Chicago.pdf And FINALLY, a reminder that Revenge in the Rockies is out! Yesterday an early reader emailed me, saying "Loved Revenge in the Rockies!" And I love getting messages like that. If you haven't yet, you can get the e-book or the paperbacks here. If you like clean mysteries with quirky characters and villains you'll love to hate, you'll love Revenge! That's it for now. Until next week... Love and wanderlust, Theresa L. Goodrich Theresa L.
