Update
Hi Scoop Independent News,

As no doubt you may have noticed, Scoop has been experiencing some technical difficulties over the last week.

The team at Scoop greatly appreciates your patience. We are now back up and running however on a temporary new home which has a very similar functionality to the Scoop you have come to rely on over the past two and half decades.

Whilst this is not the first downtime for Scoop, it is one of the most serious and longest. It has also come at a difficult time for digital news media -  during which financial pressure on independent media companies such as ours is back at levels last seen around 2008.

Fortunately such events have been an infrequent problem over our nearly 25 years in operation since we launched back in June 1999.

Scoop's tech team is now well on the way to restoring Scoop's full service offering to our subscribers - but these things can be technically tricky when a publication has have over a million published stories dating back to 1999 online - and we therefore request your patience.

We are very grateful to our publishing team, to our ISP hosts at ACS our friends at MainCross who generously and swiftly stepped up to put the new temporary solution in place which you can now access at beta1.scoop.co.nz

Fortunately several components of the Scoop.co.nz constellation-  most notably the phenomenal Wellington.scoop.co.nz remained online - and with this new platform in place traffic levels are rising fast.

Should you wish to assist us in the recovery the best way to do so is to make a one off or recurring donation via foundation.scoop.co.nz

The Maincross powered beta1.scoop.co.nz replicates the core functionality of Scoop that you are used to, and has some additional nifty features that you can explore and may like.

But the good news is that the basic service of timely complete coverage of breaking news in NZ is fully back online from today.

You will find Gordon Campbell's columns over at thedig.nz for now, and we hope to have Werewolf website back up shortly.

Finally, you will see that this Maincross powered temporary replacement Scoop has a bunch of features in it with which you may not be familiar with. We would love to hear user feedback and encouragement should you be so inclined.

Please email any thoughts to me and the team at [email protected] with the subject:  "Scoop-outage Feedback."

Kind regards

Alastair Thompson
