It happened quickly, and it was one of the hardest times I’ve been through. My wife was 7 months pregnant, we’d just moved to Illinois from Texas, and we had taken out $40,000 in student loans to make nursing school happen. Before I go any further, I want to ask you: Would you share with me what would help you the most right now? Just go to NURSING.com/vote and let me know.  Whether it’s tips for managing time, financial resources, study tools, or just feeling supported—I want to know what would make your journey easier. MY FIRST SEMESTER OF NURSING SCHOOL #VULNERABLE Back to that first semester: my parents were able to help cover a ticket to Arizona for the funeral, and that trip changed everything for me. Standing there, I realized that nurses had been with my grandpa in his final moments. It hit me that every patient I cared for would be someone’s loved one, and from that day, I vowed to care for each patient as deeply as I would for my own family. IMG_1861 A FEW YEARS LATER Fast forward a few years, and I experienced that full circle. Both my grandparents on my mom’s side passed away within a year of each other, and again, I was reminded of how deeply I depend on other nurses to care for my family when I can’t be there. It’s a big part of what drives me to help you on your journey. Someday, one of you might be that nurse caring for someone close to me, and I want to support you however I can. I know what it’s like to feel the weight of student debt and the pressure of nursing school—and I know how important it is for our patients that we make it through. So please, tell me how I can make this journey a little lighter for you. Visit NURSING.com/vote and let me know what would help you most. Thank you for being part of this journey with me. You’re not alone in this, and together we can make it through the toughest days.
