NURSING.com,
If there is ONE thing you need to know in nursing school it is blood compatibility.
This is a “go-to” for nursing faculty and NCLEX tests.
Download The Cheatsheet
So we created this friendly little chart that you can print and carry with you or slip into a notebook for a quick reference
regarding blood compatibility.
This cheatsheet is used in the following lessons (click below to view):
* Nursing Care and Pathophysiology for Sickle Cell Anemia
* Nursing Care and Pathophysiology for Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC)
* Sickle Cell Anemia
I’ll be honest, in the Neuro ICU we actually don’t give blood that often. Neuro traumas aren’t (normally) the blood spilling all
over the room kind of trauma. Because of this, and to have a backup, I’d often call someone from the Surgical ICU whenever I hung
blood (those guys are seriously the pros).
The last thing you want to do in an emergent situation requiring transfusion is to do something wrong. Especially with a
commodity as precious as blood.
I guess the moral is that you should never feel “above” asking for help. Be confident in what you DO know and be humble enough
when you DON’T know to ask questions.
Surround yourself with nurses who will never judge you for asking for help.
