  • NSSF released a statement dismissing unfounded accusations that Tim Sheehy, Montana Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, allegedly mishandled a revolver and negligently shot himself.
  • Colorado voters have two ballot initiatives to decide on Election Day. Prop. KK would levy a 6.5 percent excise tax on the sale of firearms and ammunition. Prop. 127 would ban hunting for big cats in the state. NSSF urges voters to reject both proposals.
IN MEMORIAM: GENEVA SOLOMON

CYBERSECURITY TIPS
  • Implementing Multifactor Authentication (MFA) wherever possible makes it more difficult for a threat actor to gain access to information systems, even if passwords are compromised through phishing attacks or other means. MFA adds a strong protection against account takeover by greatly increasing the level of difficulty for criminals.
NEWS OF NOTE

  • GLOCK, Inc., filed a Motion to Dismiss a frivolous lawsuit filed by the City of Chicago. The City of Chicago clearly colluded with The White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention and the gun control group Everytown for Gun Safety to bring the baseless allegations against the handgun maker after GLOCK refused to bend to The White House’s demands to alter designs.
  • A three-judge appeals panel at the Oregon Court of Appeals heard arguments to either overrule or uphold a lower court’s decision that Oregon’s Measure 114 is unconstitutional. Measure 114 was a ballot initiative passed in 2022 that would require permits, a firearm safety course and ban standard-capacity magazines.
  • The Missouri Court of Appeals for the Western District dismissed a frivolous lawsuit that attempted to hold Academy Sports + Outdoors responsible for harm caused by a criminal who stole a firearm and later criminally misused it to injure a victim. The court dismissed the case under the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), which protects firearm manufacturers and retailers from frivolous lawsuits that attempt to saddle them with responsibility for criminals misusing firearms.
  • A three-judge panel for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit upheld the District’s ban on standard-capacity magazines in a 2-1 decision.
  • Beretta USA Corp., recently opened the doors to their Gallatin, Tenn., manufacturing facility for a peek behind the scenes to see what’s making conservation in America a success. That was the point of the visit by NSSF, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
