NABP Offers Webinars on Pharmacy Personnel Burnout and AI Regulation
NABP is offering pharmacy professionals the opportunity to purchase two new home study webinars on pharmacy personnel burnout and
artificial intelligence (AI) regulation.
* The Pharmacy Personnel Burnout – Examining Causes and Prevention Strategies for Improving Well-Being webinar will provide
resources to support the mental health and well-being of pharmacists and pharmacy staff. Attendees will be provided with a
better understanding of drivers of burnout and learn tangible skills that can help individuals better address and resolve key
causes of stress and burnout in the workplace.
* In the AI and Health Informatics – What Regulators Need to Know webinar, an AI expert will discuss some issues that regulators
need to be aware of and how to inspect AI tools to protect the public from potential harm.
Both webinars are eligible for Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education-accredited continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credit.

A Message From USP: Amplify Your Impact – Apply to Volunteer on a USP Expert Committee!
Quality standards and related resources are more important than ever to address today’s complex global health challenges, which
include drug shortages, substandard products, and inconsistent oversight. If you’ve ever wanted to help find solutions to these
public health concerns, now is the time. United States Pharmacopeia (USP) is seeking volunteers to join a network of highly
dedicated, independent experts from academia, industry, regulatory, and health care fields for its 2025-2030 committee cycle.
In collaboration with USP staff, expert volunteers provide the scientific rigor that underpins the organization’s impact on global
public health. Their knowledge and leadership contribute to a community of scientists, health care practitioners, industry
experts, academics, and regulators to address emerging public health challenges, build awareness, and reduce the risk of
inconsistent and substandard medicines, foods, and dietary supplements.

September 8: First Designated 988 Day
September 8 has been designated as 988 Day, a new initiative that raises awareness about mental health and suicide prevention. The
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has prepared a digital toolkit to encourage individuals to
contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline for help and promote this year’s theme, “No Judgment. Just Help.” The toolkit supplies
organizations and community members with various marketing assets such as social media content, photography, logos, and more.

Millions of People Report Misusing Prescription Pain Relievers in 2023, New Survey Finds
The US Department of Health and Human Services and SAMHSA have published the 2023 edition of the National Survey on Drug Use and
Health (NSDUH), which presents a detailed report of Americans’ experience with substance use disorders, mental health issues, and
those who sought treatment in 2023. According to the survey results, 70.5 million people ages 12 years and older said they used
illicit drugs in the past year, with 8.6 million people stating they misused prescription pain relief medications. Furthermore,
5.3 million people ages 12 years and older reported having a prescription pain reliever use disorder in 2023. NSDUH employed
multimode data collection methods in which participants responded to a survey in person or online.

SAMHSA Hosts Webinars Throughout September for National Recovery Month
Held annually in September, National Recovery Month is a nationwide initiative to raise awareness about substance use and mental
health treatments, while also acknowledging individuals who are in recovery. This month, SAMHSA’s Office of Recovery will host
several virtual Recovery Month events, such as webinars on recovery themes, wellness, peer support, and person-centered planning.
Additionally, SAMHSA is inviting the community in the Washington, DC, area to register for its free “Walk for Recovery” event
tomorrow. The one-hour-long walk will take place at Freedom Plaza in Washington, DC, on September 5, from 2 to 5 PM EDT.
