EveryBODY= Beautiful

Hi my-carmesi,

The first time I found out that people have different body shapes was when I was around 15 or 16 years old. Prior to that, I’d assumed that different people just weighed differently! I was out shopping when the fashion consultant suggested a piece that would look good for my particular body shape - which she identified as an “inverted triangle”. I went home and read up all about it and the other types that existed. So, what exactly do I mean by “body shapes”?

Well, bodies come in all different shapes and sizes, but people store fat differently on their bodies. Someone, your size may have a wider waist than yours, while you flaunt bigger shoulders. Identifying your shape can help you pick out clothes that flatter your shape and make you look your best! So, based on the way your body shape appears, it is broadly divided into five different categories -

  • Rectangle - It’s often described as the athletic build, where your shoulder, bust, and hips have a similar width. Think Kangana Ranaut and you can easily identify the shape I’m talking about. Try outfits that have different proportions at the sleeves and waist to introduce some variety to your form.
  • Inverted triangle - With this, you have a smaller waist as compared to the width of your shoulders and bust. Wearing clothes that are wider at the waist goes well with this body type. One of the prominent celebrities to have this similar shape is Sonam Kapoor.
  • Hourglass - If your shoulder, hips, and bust are almost the same size and you have a well-defined waist that’s narrower, you probably have an hourglass body shape. Think Katrina Kaif and you can relate instantly. You can wear form-fitting clothes or ones that accentuate all your features equally.
  • Pear - This is the opposite of an inverted triangle, where your hips and legs are wider than your bust and shoulders - much like Ileana D'Cruz! Wearing clothes that highlight your arms and shoulders will compliment your body shape!
  • Apple - Usually, this type has a more rounded appearance with no defined waistline. Your shoulders and bust will also look broader than your hips. Clothes that have vertical details will look best in this particular shape - as flaunted by the gorgeous Sonakshi Sinha!

No matter what your body shape is, remember that you are beautiful - inside and out. And while you are free to dress in anything you want, knowing your shape can help you pick out clothing that will bring out the best in you. So, happy shopping!

Until next time,

Rishika
