Mind games: 3 hacks for boosting creativity

It seems like creativity has become a bit of a buzzword these days. What was once reserved for artsy types is now becoming a widely desired workplace asset. If you find yourself unable to get out of logical mind, struggling to come up with new ideas, or if you just find inspiration is eluding you, here are our top 3 hacks for boosting creativity and finding inspiration:

Stay curious and explore outside of work - It’s far too easy to get complacent outside of work or limit your knowledge seeking to reading material and courses directly related to your job. The truth is, inspiration can come from unlikely places, so try not to lean on excuses like “I don’t have time” when it comes to putting off reading, going on walks, or listening to music. The more you can actively engage with the world around you, the more interesting and vibrant your ideas.

Ask for parameters to anchor your thinking - At first glance, open ended briefs might seem like a creative dream, but it can actually be quite paralyzing. When we have no guidance or direction—in other words, when we have not identified a problem clearly—it’s actually more difficult to come up with an effective solution. We recommend pushing for clarity as much as possible or at least giving yourself some restrictions to work within so you can narrow in on what exactly you’re trying to accomplish.

Lean into your emotions and feelings - Sometimes it can be hard to stop intellectualizing problems and start thinking in more human terms. If you’ve been reprimanded for being too sensitive or all over the place before, you may have trained your brain to think in more linear, streamlined ways. However, when it comes to channelling creativity, the path is often more lateral, winding, complicated, and nuanced. Rather than shying away from this chaos, try to lean into it.

Well folks, it’s time to stop thinking and start creating. Get out there and journal without judgement, take a walk, or make a new Spotify playlist. Your creative genius is about to be unlocked. #TGIM
