Ever since I can remember I’ve always been happy about eating. Even as a child food excited me more than a new toy ever could. At over 300 pounds I started to worry about my health. WHAT-IF'S Sometimes when I reflect on my life I think about the “what if’s”. Would I even be the person I am today without having gone through all the challenges, obstacles and experiences throughout my life? What if my parents didn’t get divorced when I was four, would that have kept me from becoming an obese child? What if I grew up learning more about healthy foods? What if I was pushed to be athletic? What if I made better food choices and turned my life around before reaching over 300 pounds? What if I was never morbidly obese? What if I never had to deal with loose skin? So many “what if’s”. After the “what if’s” then the guilt, remorse and regret comes into play. During these moments I have to tell myself what’s done is done. What has been, has already passed and I can continue life with regrets or I can make the best of the time I have left moving towards the future. REGRETS You won’t find many “before” pictures of myself from the face down. Whether I instructed the person to leave out my body or just cut the photo to fit what I was comfortable with showing. Most pictures that I have of myself are straight headshots. I regret not having more photos of myself from that time. Not just so I can post different before and afters but because it really saddens me just how my mindset was back then. I’m so grateful that has changed, and I don’t feel that way anymore....clearly! Find Acceptance Within Your Body. You need to care about yourself right now! Love yourself right now! Too often I told myself I’ll be happy once I’ve lost 100 pounds, 20 pounds, 10 more pounds! I’ll be so happy with myself once I’m a size 16, 14, I’ll be satisfied at size 12! I was on a rollercoaster ride of losing weight and regaining it back. I had the wrong mindset...I was never satisfied there was always another goal and I’d feel hopeless. I doubted myself and I was my own worst enemy. I criticized myself more than I applauded my achievements. The negativity will not get you to where you need to be and you won’t reach your goals by constantly dragging yourself down! It took a mental change within myself to make my journey worth taking. It took self reflection and self acceptance. It took forgiveness and an oath to treat myself like I would someone I love. Once you understand this process and finally flip that switch from “I’ll love myself when” to “I LOVE myself now” then that’s when things begin to change. That’s when the journey will make sense. Being Knowledgeable I’m still a big fan of food but, I’m also knowledgeable on how to use it in order to benefit me. I use it to fuel me and I use it with purpose! That doesn’t mean food has become less enjoyable. In fact, I enjoy it more today because I’ve seen what it can do. Help me build muscle, help fuel my workouts, help me become overall healthier! I’m a huge fan of food! I just make it work for me now....not the other way around. . This journey isn’t about being miserable losing the things that you love! It’s about discovering new things, new passions, changing relationships! That includes changing your relationship with food! Don’t go into this with a negative outlook. Understand how amazing what you’re doing is! Get excited!! You’re changing your life!
