Dear Miss Smith,
On a mountainside in South Africa’s Swartland, in one of the most beautiful spots I know, winemaker Callie Louw crafts one of the
most expressive, purest Syrahs in the world under the mountain’s name: Porseleinberg.
This morning, we’re thrilled to release the latest vintage of the wine: the 2021.
And from the 2021 vintage, Callie Louw has again created a masterpiece. South Africa expert Tim Atkin MW awards the wine a
near-perfect 99 points and calls this “one of the world’s great reds from a very special site.”
This is a wine that sells out every year, so don’t miss the chance to add it to your cellar today.
2021 Porseleinberg Syrah, Swartland
£49 per bottle in bond (IB)
£588 per case of 12 bottles in bond (IB)
Drink 2027 to 2049
Since its first vintage in 2010, the Porseleinberg Syrah has wowed with its concentration, refinement and precision.
Tim Atkin MW has previously dubbed the Porseleinberg Syrah the “Cape Cornas,” while Neal Martin of Vinous.com has previously
referred to the wine as “Old World in style” and “not unlike a mature Jamet.”
And while top wines from Jamet, the famed Rhône producer, can often command prices in the hundreds of pounds, the 2021
Porseleinberg is just £49 a bottle in bond. This is a steal for what is unquestionably one of the world’s finest red wines.
In 2021, there’s a captivating finesse and complexity to the Porseleinberg that beautifully showcases the schistous terroir from
which the wine is grown.
And while many winemakers stress the importance of vineyards, few take farming as seriously as Callie. He’s a man who’s most at
ease tending his vines. This commitment shows in the wine, and it’s no surprise that the Porseleinberg name has become synonymous
with wines of the utmost quality.
If you’re a Syrah fan, this is a wine you have to secure on first release. In the years to come, you’ll be glad you did.
P.S. If you’d like to meet Callie and sample a selection of some of his favourite vintages of Porseleinberg alongside top examples
of Syrah from the Rhône, we still have a pair of tickets still available to our Dinner with Porseleinberg, Thursday 28th September
at The George in Fitzrovia, London.
For any South African wine fans, this is a no-brainer. Come along for what promises to be a very exciting dinner.
