Hi koha-pet,
The holidays are here and you’re probably finding yourself away from home more than normal. And while getting out to visit friends
and family is great, it can be stressful for our furry family members. That’s right …separation anxiety is very real and it is
experienced by dogs and cats!
Excessive vocalizations, pacing, and destructive behavior are just a few of the signs of separation anxiety. Some pets even refuse
to eat! Although you should share any serious separation anxiety issues with your vet, there are multiple ways to help minimize
the stress that comes with being apart.
And Team KOHA is here to provide some tips to know … before you go.

KEEP THEM EXERCISED
Giving your furry friend a healthy dose of playtime BEFORE you leave can help them stay relaxed and even nap when you need to step
out for a bit.
MAKE A LOW-KEY EXIT … AND RETURN
Avoiding excited “goodbyes” and “I’m home” can help normalize transitions in and out of the home.
GIVE THEM A “SCENTS” OF SECURITY
Leaving a recently worn tee shirt by their bed or favorite spot with your scent can provide comfort while you’re out.
PROVIDE ENTERTAINMENT
Put the television or relaxing music on at a low volume or give them a special toy that can keep your pet’s mind occupied.
So get out there and know that the biggest gift is coming home to that furry friend!
