 Illl!lllllllllllllllll National Book. Lover$

Today's best national day isn't about food, it's about books and the people that love them. Yes, it's National Book Lover's Day. As a book lover, this is an exciting thing I didn't even know existed. I have been on a book reading hiatus and knowing today is National Book Lover's Day makes me feel a little guilty that I haven't cracked a book in months. What is National Book Lover's Day? It's an unofficial holiday that is meant to encourage people to set aside other means of entertainment and encourage them to read a book or two. There are loads of resources online to point people in the direction they'd prefer to take, but even reading a few pages of something would fulfil the assignment. Hopefully, you can take some time and engage in celebrating today's best national day. Happy reading.

Some Books I Love - Fantasy Edition

I am not shy about my love of the fantasy, science fiction, and thriller genres. I figured it would be fitting if I made a list of some of my favorite books on National Book Lover's Day. I'm going to list these in no particular order with as brief of a summary as I can, ideally just a teaser about the book or the reason I love it. Here we go.

  • Black Sun Rising by CS Friedman has amazing world-building/magic system; this pseudo-sci fi turned fantasy tale features "demons", vampires, weird magic, strange "religions", and a plethora of other oddities that make it a compelling read. Published in 1991, some of these concepts were pretty groundbreaking.
  • The Phoenix Guards by Steven Brust is a fantasy mimicry of Alexandre Dumas' Three Musketeers without the guns, so much so that the author crafts intricate dialogue and flowery language into every page of the book; and even with all of this unnecessary writing it is an amazing read.
  • Elantris by Brandon Sanderson is the novel that started a fantasy kingdom, and still my favorite Sanderson book with it's incredible and unique magic system and world-building, it's a treatise on how to create innovative fantasy worlds.
  • The Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett is peek Pratchett distilled down to a level that anyone can read it, with his bravest, most impressive character and her incredible sidekicks. It might not be officially in the Discworld Series, maybe that's because it eclipses that series completely.
  • The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch is a fantasy novel that pulls all the best parts of a con artist movie into the plot and is written by a master storyteller; not TOTALLY unique but written in such a superior fashion to its predecessors that it resets the bar for this type of fantasy fiction.

There you go. I guess I should caveat this list by saying, these are not my top 5, simply a list of some of my favorites. Like a restaurant with a rotating menu. These are the five best on the menu right now.

The Monthly Bundle features the Tumbled R-Type Retrakt V2 rollerball and Tumbled Frag Retraktable with matte black hardware. This finish is rugged and utilitarian, perfect for outfitting an EDC pen and pencil combo. You get the reliability and function of a standard rollerball pen outfitted with the Pilot G2 or equivalent rollerball refill plus a fully machined aluminum mechanical pencil with a metal pencil mechanism made for durability and extreme use conditions. Don't take our word for it, these come with lifetime warranties on all of our manufactured parts, and lifetime service as well.

The Gloss Green Vertex fountain pen is our pocket fountain pen machined from aluminum and anodized in an amazing shiny green finish. The Vertex was a gamechanger for us in fit, form, and function; minimizing components while maximizing usability. The use of o-rings in multiple places, lack of external threads, and unique grip section to body transition make for a pen almost anyone can comfortably use for hours on end. You can pick this one up for just 70 dollars. If you're not a fountain pen person, fear not, this pen can be purchased in a rollerball configuration and is nearly as easy and quick to get into action as a retractable rollerball. The Gloss Green Vertex rollerball is also 70 dollars for August.
