SR 203 roundabout construction begins with nighttime single-lane closures in High Rock

HIGH ROCK – State Route 203 will be reduced to a single lane with flaggers alternating traffic from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly beginning Tuesday, May 28, through Friday morning, May 31, near the High Rock community. People traveling between Monroe and Duvall should expect short delays from similar weeknight lane closures through mid-June along SR 203 at the intersection with High Rock Road and 203rd Street Southeast.

Contractors working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will perform grading, drainage and electrical work to prepare for the installation of a unique, exclamation point-shaped compact roundabout that will improve mobility and safety in the area.

Four-day closure
Most of the work on this new roundabout will be done during a four-day closure of SR 203, which is tentatively scheduled for late June. Only local traffic will be allowed south of Tualco Road and north of Northeast Woodinville-Duvall Road during the closure. Freight traffic will detour using Northeast Woodinville-Duvall Road and SR 522, while other vehicles will use local roads.

Once complete later this summer, the new roundabout will calm traffic, slow vehicle speeds near the intersection and help create easier turns and decisions for drivers. The roundabout also will feature two center islands that large trucks can drive over, making it easier for them to navigate the intersection.
