Daytime road work happening on westbound SR 8 east of McCleary Aug. 30

Travelers heading to the coast should plan extra travel time

MCCLEARY – Starting Friday, Aug. 30, daytime travelers on State Route 8 will see temporary changes to the roadway east of McCleary.

What to Expect

7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30:

  • Crews will reconfigure SR 8 to open a lane on the westbound side of the highway.
  • Crews will slow down traffic to move westbound travelers onto the lane.
  • Travelers are encouraged to add 15 minutes travel time to help prevent delays.

When the work is complete, one lane in each direction will remain open on the highway.

Intersection turn restrictions

Temporary left turn restrictions remain in place at SR 8 and Mox Chehalis Road East.

The large concrete culvert replaces a smaller outdated culvert that blocked fish from swimming freely under the highway. Crews installed the eastbound half of the structure in May.

The work is part of a project to remove barriers to fish under US 12 and SR 8 in Grays Harbor County.

Whenever near work zones please:

  • Slow down – drive the posted speeds, they’re there for everyone’s safety.
  • Be kind – workers are out there helping to keep people safe and improve the roadways.
  • Pay attention – both to workers and surrounding traffic.
  • Stay calm – leave early; no meeting or appointment is worth risking someone’s life.

Travelers are encouraged to sign up for email updates for highway construction in Grays Harbor County. Real-time information is available on the WSDOT app and statewide travel map.
