News in brief:
BA Euroflyer upgrades its food options from London Gatwick
BA Euroflyer, the new subsidiary operating British Airways short haul flights from London Gatwick, has announced an upgrade to its food options.
The ‘Speedbird Cafe’ buy on board option will now have fresh food available for impulse purchases. To date, you have only been able to eat something fresh if you had pre-ordered and pre-paid prior to departure.
New options include Tom Kerridge Chicken Coronation sandwiches and Sweet & Spicy Falafel wraps.
Club Europe menus have also been refreshed for Spring with new options including lemon pepper roasted chicken salad, wild mushroom risotto and a chickpea and curried coconut salad. Breakfast options remain as a traditional English breakfast, cheese omelette or a charcuterie board.
I was pleasantly surprised by the Club Europe lunch I had flying back from Salzburg in February, which if anything was better than many Heathrow Club Europe meals I’ve had in the past year.
If you fly from Heathrow ….
Rather shockingly, the buy on board options from ‘low cost’ BA Euroflyer at Gatwick are now better than the options from Heathrow, where no fresh food is available for an impulse buy.
This is due to change in the next couple of weeks. Fresh food will be available for buy on board impulse purchases on routes of 3+ hours from Heathrow. Nothing is changing on shorter routes for the moment
Two new Lufthansa routes from the UK have launched
Lufthansa is continuing to build out its UK network post pandemic.
Two new routes to Frankfurt launched this week.
Flights from Belfast City will operate four times per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday). This is the first flight on any airline between Northern Ireland and Germany.
London Gatwick to Frankfurt will operate twice per day.
Whilst there will clearly be point to point traffic, these services are primarily aimed at funnelling long haul connecting passengers onto Lufthansa.
As a reminder, short-haul Lufthansa-branded services only operate to Frankfurt and Munich to enable connections to Lufthansa long-haul flights.
Short-haul flights from the UK to other German cities such as Berlin and Hamburg are operated by the low cost Eurowings subsidiary. Eurowings is not in Star Alliance but does let you earn and redeem Lufthansa Miles & More miles.
