 AUSTRALIAN ACACIAS
Acacia dealbata is a gorgeous and fast-growing evergreen shrub or small tree native to southeastern Australia, where it is generally a pioneer species after fires. In late-winter to early spring, large racemes of fluffy, bright-yellow, ball-like flowers bloom at the ends of the branches of these highly architectural plants. Its foliage is feathery and fine, almost fern-like and typically blue-green to silvery grey, which gives it Silver Wattle as a common name. Acacia dealbata has become a very popular landscaping plant for obvious reasons, and its unique flowers and foliage have long been desirable in floral arrangements. Acacia dealbata’s sweet-smelling floral essence is used in perfumes, and often confusingly called ‘Mimosa’, a plant genus of which it has no close relation. Silver Wattle is an unusual edible. Its flowers are often cooked in fritters and used in chutney, while the gum that exudes naturally from its trunk can be used as a substitute for Gum Arabic. The wood of Acacia dealbata is quite beautiful for crafts and furniture, as it often features distinct patterns, such as birseye or tiger striping.
Acacia pravissima, or Ovens Wattle, is an easy-going and highly ornamental tree/shrub with evergreen, whip-like, weeping branches covered in small triangular leaves, which gives them a serrated blade-like appearance. In late-winter or early spring, its branches are bedecked in profusions of bright-yellow, puffy flowers with the sweet and earthy fragrance of honey. In its native home of southeastern Australia, Acacia pravissima is most commonly found sheltered in eucalyptus forests along streams and creeks. Moist, yet well-drained soils are often appreciated by this species, though it does have a high tolerance for heat and drought, as well as impressive fire resistance.

Customer Reviews:

I've ordered over 100 plants from Forestfarm, since 2006, and I appreciate the safe shipping! Plants and trees arrive in great shape. Thank you!
-Jan Wall

You guys are pros! I have always been impressed with how well your plants are packed.
-Greg McCann

Once again 5 stars for great plants packed well. They arrived in perfect condition even though they traveled across the entire U.S. They arrived today and are in hole infused with compost and love and I look forward to enjoying them for years…
-Sue Watson

I’m so impressed with the health and beauty of the plants from ForestFarm. I live in NYC and ordered twice this season - it’s worth it to receive such a selection from this nursery. I love the accurate descriptions of the flowers and shrubs and the range of plants. Wonderful!
