FOOD TANK w NEWSLETTER

Dear Food Tank: The Food Think Tank,

We are excited to share some fantastic events Food Tank is planning over the next few weeks in Boston, Raleigh-Durham, Austin, Atlanta, and virtually!

Food Tank’s events fill up very quickly, so please be sure to register today. (Want complimentary access to all Food Tank events and opportunities, even when sold-out? Become a member today if you aren’t already. Join HERE!)

📍In Boston, Mass., on Feb. 7th and 21st: World debut workshop reading of Little Peasants, a new play co-written by Food Tank co-founder Bernard Pollack about the growing movement of union organizing among food workers.

A one-act iteration of Little Peasants was featured at SXSW in March 2023, where the show received critical acclaim and multiple standing ovations. We are so excited to collaborate with dramaturg and producer Elena Morris, director Dori A. Robinson, and the all-Boston based cast to spotlight culture and food in a show made possible through a grant by the Somerville Arts Council.

Food Tank’s previous theatrical production, called WeCameToDance, delves into the intersection of food, exoplanets, and the climate crisis. That show had a sold-out, month-long run at the 2021 Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland. There, the show received praise from dozens of media outlets including the New York Times, was performed live on Good Morning Britain, and was featured at the UN Climate Change Conference.

Tickets: Food Tank members can access complimentary tickets HERE. Otherwise, please click HERE to find tickets for purchase.

📍Virtual event at 1 p.m. Feb. 7th: “Harvesting Health: Elevating the Role of Herbal Medicine in Food System.” Join Food Tank and Traditional Medicinals for a virtual Summit to elevate an understanding of plant medicine and its role in the food ecosystem. Topics of discussion include food is medicine, wild harvesting, quality and efficacy in medicine, and the intelligence of the earth.

Speakers include: Taryn Forrelli, Chief Science Officer at Traditional Medicinals; Guido Masé, founder of the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism; Deborah Vorhies, CEO of FairWild; Jocelyn Boreta, Executive Director of The Botanical Bus: Bilingual Mobile Herb Clinic; Nadja Cech; Professor of Chemistry at the University of North Carolina Greensboro; Holly Johnson, Chief Science Officer at the American Herbal Products Association; renowned phytotherapy researcher Kevin Spelman; Chloe Sorvino, food journalist at Forbes; and more.

Registration is required, and you can sign up HERE.

📍In Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, on March 3rd: Join Food Tank and Duke University’s World Food Policy Center for a Summit advancing the National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health. At the Summit, we will be discussing critical policy issues under the theme “The Health and Wellbeing of Future Generations in Policy."

As we discuss the Strategy's implementation and potential to empower eaters, we will focus on topics including the Women, Infants, and Children Nutrition Program (WIC); Summer EBT, which provides grocery-buying benefits to low-income families with school-aged children when schools are closed for the summer; the School Food Added Sugar Limit, and more.

We will hear from 35+ amazing speakers (details will be unveiled soon!), plus important discussions and a reception.

You can register HERE, and use the promo code FoodTankVIP to unlock hidden tickets!

📍In Austin at SXSW, on March 3rd: We are co-hosting our annual All Things Food Summit in partnership with Huston-Tillotson University, Barr Mansion, and Driscoll’s—an official SXSW 2024 event.

It will be incredible: The Summit will include multiple stages at the gorgeous Barr Mansion in Austin, where we’ll bring together more than 40 luminary speakers, delicious food, film viewings, live performance, tasting areas, and so much more. Plus, we're about to announce a giant celebration dinner featuring local chefs from across Austin!

Find more information HERE.

📍In Atlanta, on April 14: Food Tank and Emory University are hosting the Empowering Eaters: Access, Affordability and Healthy Choices Summit to continue discussions of the Biden-Harris Administration’s National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health.
