Ottawa sisters honouring mother's memory by running for organ donations
By Ken Warren
For Cristin and Caitlin Shanahan, it’s all about the cause that was closest to their mother’s giving heart.
While there are hundreds of reasons why thousands of runners are taking to the streets Saturday and Sunday for Tamarack Ottawa
Race Weekend, the “Shanny Sisters” are choosing to honour their mother’s memory Sunday by going the full 42.2-kilometre marathon
distance to raise awareness for organ donations.
After Alison Shanahan passed away in August 2020 due to a brain tumour, her lungs, liver and kidney were passed on to others in
desperate need of life-saving donations.
Now the daughters are seeking at least 84 new donors — one for each kilometre they will run on Sunday — as a tribute.

How to get tested and treated for COVID-19 in Ottawa
Pharmacists can dispense Paxlovid, an antiviral drug used to reduce severe outcomes from COVID-19 to eligible people at no cost,
both in person and virtually. People can use Ontario’s COVID-19 online antiviral treatment screener to see if they’re at higher
risk of severe illness and might benefit from the medication.
Ottawa residents can find out who’s currently eligible for testing and how to book tests and seek treatment at local care clinics
or assessment centres on the Ottawa Public Health website.
Families can also check out CHEO’s page on when to go to the emergency department and alternatives to the ED.

Artificial intelligence becoming more commonly used in public service; feds update rules
By Catherine Morrison
With artificial intelligence becoming a more prominent tool within the public service, including for internal uses like
recruitment, the federal government has expanded its regulations around the use of the technology.
Benoit Deshaies, director of data and artificial intelligence (AI) for the Office of the Chief Data Officer of Canada, said the
government had been working towards extending the scope of its Directive on Automated Decision-Making for the past year, with the
document officially amended on April 25.
That document outlines rules for the use of AI by the government. The update includes specifics for internal-use cases impacting
employees.

CHEO's Alex Munter is out of the mix, as hiring process for next city manager nears conclusion
By Taylor Blewett
CHEO boss Alex Munter will not be Ottawa’s next city manager.
After confirming publicly that he was considering the opportunity to serve at the top of the city hall org chart, the president
and CEO of the Eastern Ontario children’s hospital announced Wednesday that he would be staying with CHEO.
In a hospital-wide update, Munter wrote that “while very flattering to be approached, I want to let you know that my
