Teen on Titanic sub was 'terrified' but went because it was Father’s Day, aunt says
By Lynn Chaya
The aunt of the youngest passenger aboard the Titan submersible said that her nephew was “terrified” of the expedition but wanted
to join his dad because it was Father’s Day.
Suleman Dawood, 19, and his father, British-Pakistani tycoon Shahzada Dawood, were among the five people who perished on the
submersible when it suffered what the U.S. Coast Guard said was a “catastrophic implosion” while diving to the wreck of the
Titanic.
Azmeh Dawood, Shahzada’s sister, told NBC News that her nephew expressed hesitation about the trip with his father. She said that
the teenager had told a relative he “wasn’t very up for it” and felt “terrified”, but joined on the expedition to please his
father who had been obsessed with the Titanic since childhood.
