H.M. Queen Sofia of Spain has participated in a clean-up as part of Ecoalf Foundation and Biotherm’s “LIMPIA RÍOS, SALVA OCÉANOS”
project. This initiative is part of the LIBERA project “1m2 for rivers, lakes and reservoirs” to clean inland river ecosystems,
the main source of waste on its way to the seas and oceans.
During the clean-up in the municipality of Rivas Vaciamadrid in Madrid, 504 kg of waste were collected thanks to 50 volunteers
with the aim of reducing pollution in rivers and raising awareness of the importance of environmental preservation.

“It is estimated that 80% of the garbage that ends up in the oceans comes from the rivers. It is garbage that no one sees, but
that is polluting our ecosystems. That is why we are so proud that H.M. Queen Sofia of Spain is helping us to give voice to
“LIMPIA RÍOS, SALVA OCÉANOS”. Each one of us has the capacity to join and be part of the change”.
Javier Goyeneche, President of Ecoalf Foundation.
