Workshops and Webinars

Food Waste to Good Taste Workshop

Monday August 5*. Nunez Community College, 3700 La Fontaine St., Chalmette 70043. Free.

Reducing food waste is one of the top three ways to reverse climate change, because 40 percent of all U.S. food goes unsold or uneaten, ends up in a landfill, decomposes and releases methane — a greenhouse gas between 24 and 87 times more potent than CO2.  Building better systems for addressing food waste in food and beverage businesses can be achieved with minimimal guidance.

StayLocal has partnered with GREEN Hospitality, an innovator in Hong Kong’s hospitality industry, and Nunez Community College's Culinary Arts program to offer an informative workshop to professionals working in restaurants and all related food and hospitality businesses. Interested business owners should sign up for one of two "A-Z of food waste" workshops to learn how to reduce commercial food waste.

B.Alert, StayLocal's Disaster Response Communication System

StayLocal, Greater New Orleans’ independent business alliance, is the host of a new Disaster Response Communication System for local business owners. Called B.Alert, the system sends messages to subscribers only as necessary to facilitate our community’s recovery after a hurricane has taken place. Sign up is simple and is open now at staylocal.org/drcs-welcome.

The two-way text communication system provides essential information on available resources and support to local business owners in the aftermath of a hurricane.

The communication system will also enable businesses to share information to the public in the immediate aftermath of a major weather event about their status, including temporarily revised hours of operation and payment systems, as well as goods and services they can provide.

Businesses intent on staying connected during this and future hurricane seasons should join the more than 400 business owner subscribers to B.Alert by completing the form on this page: staylocal.org/drcs-welcome

B.Alert is made possible with the support of Urban Conservancy and the Weishaupt Family Foundation.
