Date Event
November 23 2024, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM STEAM Workshops

STEAM Workshops take place at Joseph Brant Museum for children aged 9-12 years and are facilitated by STEAMULATION Lab. Register at museumsofburlington.ca.

Nov 23 | STEAM Workshop | Pasta Rovers

The Pasta Rover experiment, conducted by STEAMULATION Lab, is a fun, hands-on activity for kids (ages 9-12) that teaches basic engineering and problem-solving skills. In this experiment, children build their own mini rovers using simple materials like pasta, cardboard, and wheels. They learn about the mechanics of movement, balance, and design while sparking their creativity. The best part? Each child gets to take their Pasta Rover home as a keepsake, reminding them of the principles they explored and how much fun they had building their own functional, moving vehicle.

Dec 14 | STEAM Workshop | Robotic Articulated Hand

The Robotic Articulated Hand experiment is an engaging, hands-on activity conducted by STEAMULATION Lab, where kids (ages 9-12) design and build their own robotic hand model using everyday materials like straws, strings, and cardboard. This project introduces children to fundamental concepts in robotics and biomechanics, allowing them to explore how joints, tendons, and muscles work together to create movement. As they assemble and test their robotic hands, kids not only develop engineering and problem-solving skills but also gain a deeper understanding of how technology can mimic the human body. It’s a fun and educational experience, and each child gets to take home their robotic hand as a keepsake, after the activity ends.

Through images, soundscapes, first person accounts and artifacts, this powerful exhibition begins “no one wants to be a refugee, anyone could become a refugee.” Moving through major waves of arrival from Second World War era up to present day, Refuge Canada does not shy away from opportunities to portray the darker chapters of history. Hopeful stories of optimism and success are balanced by moving accounts of shattered lives, fear, and examples of Canada’s mixed record in welcoming refugees.
