A special sketching prompt and ideas for festive card-painting for loved ones!
A wooden tabletop with an open palette, a printed picture of a mountain scene with little rectangles around different sections, and a painting of the four views depicted by the rectangles.

Artist Jill Richie divides her view into little compositions!

Dear Art Toolkit,

While creating art can, at times, feel like a solo activity, I find so much joy and inspiration in community and the sharing we can do with each other. Over the past two weeks, we’ve had two amazing live demos with Alaska based artist Jill Ritchie and New York based artist Gavin Snider. In just an hour, both shared their artistic background and guided painting for viewers to follow along.

Is there an artist you’d like to see featured with us? Let us know in a response to this email; we love connecting with artists around the world! Read on for an artistic prompt inspired by Jill’s demo, Varying Your Viewfinder.

Prompt: Interpret a Scene in Four Ways

A person holds up a grid of four images of a similar scene with a blue sky in the background and leafless trees. ol ,,‘ '“V“' ‘l fi(fi(l(l A e 1Ll “\a N &l[l%ll ] lmwfllll A Mu' S o

Artist Jill Richie explores "art in conversation with the environment." In our Varying Your Viewfinder live demo in January, Jill shared ideas for interpreting one scene in four ways, from finding different focal paints or perspectives for each painting. This weekend, we encourage you to do the same! Keep things simple and lighthearted; we’d love to see what you create!

A Hand-Painted Card for Someone You Love

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, we invite you to watch our beloved Valentine’s Day Cards demo with Art Toolkit Ambassador, card maker extraordinaire, and master of color mixing Lisa Spangler. She guided us through creating lovely cards, using her Pocket Palette, and Rosemary & Co R12 Dagger and R13 Pointed Round travel brushes.

Watercolor hearts and flowers painted on cards with an open red palette on a red background.

Art Toolkit Recommends: A Year in Practice

A Year in Practice: Seasonal Rituals and Prompts to Awaken Cycles of Creative Expression is a gem of a book by poet and educator Jaqueline Suskin.

~ A YEAR IN PRACTICE Seasonal Rituals and Prompts to Awaken Cycles of Creative Expression JACQUELINE SUSKIN

Within chapters aligned with the seasons, Jaqueline shares a series of prompts and practices to tap into your creativity. A Year in Practice is for anyone interested in a little structure, guidance, and inspiration in building a creative habit. I first learned about this beautiful book from our friend Anna Brones, founder of the Creative Fuel Collective.

As always, we appreciate your support, enthusiasm, and inspiring ideas. Please keep in touch, and we’d love to hear your news! We always enjoy connecting on Instagram and Facebook, too.

Best wishes,
