Dear Art Toolkit,

This month, we’ve been quietly working on an exciting project... our new space! Art Toolkit is moving to downtown Port Townsend this winter. We’re thrilled to rent a beautiful corner space in the Flagship Building, along the waterfront. Our neighbors include the Port Townsend Marine Science Center (our landlords) as well as Type Townsend, a typewriter store with amazing owners and staff!

We’ve been busy preparing for the holidays and our big move, but we’re excited to grow as a business while working hard to keep our doors open and shipping running as smoothly as possible. Read on for holiday hours and closure announcements!

Holiday Hours

Shelves in a store with art supplies and cedar boughs.

We are closed Thursday and Friday this week, and will resume normal business hours from Monday, November 27th though Friday, December 15th in our current space.

After that, we’ll move to online sales only through the first week of January while we relocate downtown!

In the meantime, we hope you will come and visit our charming space at 334 Sherman Street before we’re gone, Monday–Friday from 10am to 4pm. We’ve been here four years now, and it will be bittersweet to leave, but we’re excited for this new chapter!

Today marks one week since we announced this year’s Holiday Sets, and we are busy keeping them restocked while supplies last! We are so grateful to you, our incredible community, for supporting us and making it possible to create high-quality, long-lasting supplies for the artists in all of our lives, including ourselves! Both The Demi and Pocket Sets with and without paint are still available.

Art Toolkit Recommends: Braiding Sweetgrass

Today we’re happy to share a very special book, Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants. In Braiding Sweetgrass, botanist Robin Wall Kimmerer, a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, poetically weaves together science and indigenous wisdom and calls for awakening wider ecological consciousness.

Aerial shot of a book with a graphic of braided grass with a grass braid paintbrush, and paint-filled pans next to it.

Her tender reflections on plants, from sweetgrass to algae, from cattails to cedar, invite us to reimagine our relationship with the natural world as mutually beneficial. With a deep love for the planet, Braiding Sweetgrass offers inspiration and hope for a better future. This book, along with our other book recommendations, can be found in our Bookshop.

As always, we appreciate your support, enthusiasm, and inspiring ideas. Please keep in touch, and we’d love to hear your news! We always enjoy connecting on Instagram and Facebook, too.

Best wishes,

Maria & the Art Toolkit Team
