Take Off ARTICLE ICON 1 HOUSE HOLDS AG GARLAND IN CONTEMPT The House voted 216 to 207 to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress on Wednesday for refusing to hand over audiotapes of President Biden's interview with special counsel Robert Hur.  Republicans in the House already have a written transcript of the interview, but they have demanded a copy of the audio, accusing the Justice Department of covering up for Biden and any potential criminal activity. The White House previously blocked the audio release by invoking executive privilege. It stated that Republicans in Congress wanted the recordings only “to chop them up” and use them for political purposes.  A 57-page internal Justice Department memo, obtained by the media on Wednesday, argued that Attorney General Garland was protected from prosecution for contempt of Congress due to President Biden's use of executive privilege.  ARTICLE ICON 1FED: NO RATE CUT AS INFLATION CONTINUES The Federal Reserve announced on Wednesday that it would keep interest rates unchanged, citing concerns over higher-than-expected inflation. The Fed projected only one rate cut for 2024 because of continuing inflation pressure. Core inflation—which excludes the shifting prices for food and energy—was predicted to rise to 2.6% from 2.4% in 2024. The Fed said it was seeking “greater confidence that inflation is moving sustainably toward 2%” before cutting rates. ARTICLE ICON 1LIST: CAROLINAS NEW NO. 1 MOVE-IN DESTINATION Florida has been replaced as the most popular state for residential move-ins as transplants grow more interested in the Carolinas and other Southern states. Here's a list of the top 20 U.S. cities for move-ins in 2024. Data collected by storage company PODS, indicated more people are moving to North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama. California had the greatest number of move-outs due to crime, taxes, and cost of living, according to the report. In 2023, Florida claimed five of the top 10 move-in cities, but this year, only Ocala and Jacksonville remained in the top 10, and last year’s No. 3, Orlando, fell to No. 18. According to PODS, severe weather risks, skyrocketing insurance premiums, lagging job growth, and immigration contributed to Florida's decline. - Speaking of Florida, yesterday we launched our latest state-level edition: Flyover Florida!
