KANSAS CITY CHIEFS KICKER COUNTERS ANTI-GUN NARRATIVE AFTER SHOOTING Kansas City Chiefs By Jordan Elliott | March 19, 2024 Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker refuted the conventional notion that gun control would resolve mass shootings, instead asserting that having more fathers in American society as positive examples for young men would be the solution. Lawmakers have called for new firearm restrictions after the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Victory Parade shooting, which left one dead and twenty-two wounded. Butker, a father of two who is outspoken about his Roman Catholic faith, said in an interview that fathers have a key role in teaching their sons how to handle disagreements. “I had to do a lot of thinking about what took place at the parade. I know gun violence was a big discussion, but at the end of the day, this is degenerate violence,” Butker remarked in the interview. “I think we need strong fathers in the home. We need men that are leading, that are setting good examples, that are teaching the young men in our society that violence is not the way to handle our disputes.” Butker mourned the fact that “many children were injured” and “a beautiful young lady was killed” over a shootout that started with “someone getting offended.” Butker said in a recent interview that fathers have a key role in teaching their sons how to handle their disagreements. “It’s so sad. I don’t think guns are the issue,” Butker continued. “I think we need fathers in the home that are being great examples for our youth.” Researchers have indeed indicated that fatherlessness is associated with mass shooting incidents: one study of fifty-six school shootings found that only ten of the shooters were raised in a stable home with both of their biological parents, while other studies have indicated that children with close relationships to their fathers are 80% less likely to spend time in jail. Teachers and law enforcement officers frequently cite lack of parental guidance as a factor behind violence in schools. The remarks from Butker contrasted with the calls for new firearm regulations from some teammates. Chiefs safety Justin Reid contended that “we cannot ourselves to become numb and chalk it up to ‘just another shooting in America’ and reduce people in statistics and then move on,” while Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu inquired when the nation would “fix these gun laws.” President Joe Biden released a statement after the incident calling for a ban on purported “assault weapons,” limits on “high-capacity magazines,” more strict background checks, and other policies he believes would “keep guns out of the hands of those who have no business owning them or handling them.” “For me, we’re a country where people should have the right to go to school, to go to church, to walk the street, and to attend a Super Bowl celebration, without fear of losing your life,” he said. “Jill and I pray for those killed and injured today in Kansas City, and for our country to find the resolve to end this senseless epidemic.” Gun Pulse Gazette Gun Pulse is a brand-new conservative publication devoted entirely to the Second Amendment, from political battles over the right to keep and bear arms, to opinion and commentary pieces, to equipment reviews, and much more. |  |  © Gun Pulse Gazette, 881 W Baxter Dr, Suite 100, South Jordan, UT 84095
