Hello everyone!

The solvent (Straight Running Gas) extracted palm kernel oil usually causes high FFA and long recirculation during refining. What can be done to arrest the situation?

Oil flashing point: 100-118'C

Moisture value: 3-5%

FFA: 3-7%

What could be the cause of a rapid drop in Deodorizer temperature whenever the bleached oil flow rate is set above 1000kg/h?

H.P. Boiler steam temperature preset at 285'C, with the steam pressure at 69.5

3. For research project, need to buy different vegetable oils in the US

Hi Everyone,

I am working on the research project. To Initiate the project, I have to purchase vegetable oils. However, it is really hard to find the company or place to sell the following oils: High Linoleic sunflower, High Oleic Sunflower, Mild Oleic Sunflower, Soybean, Corn, Cottonseed, Canola, and Palm Olein Oils. I need to buy these oils about 35 lb each. Can anyone provide information where I can buy these oils?

I'm not an expert in analysis but I think you are talking about ICP or Inductively Coupled Plasma spectroscopy which can be used to detect a range of other elements as well. It's probably also worth investigating Near Infra red Spectroscopy. There seems to be quite a strong relationship between the amount of chlorine in palm oil and the amount of 3 MCPD that can form during processing. Washing palm oil by mixing it with water and then separating the two in a centrifugal separator to remove the chlorine is becoming a common process.

I would recommend to check first which instruments are available in your lab/department and then, through literature, decide which analysis can be set up.

The combustion you are referring to is most likely a microwave assisted combustion (if based on recent literature) whereby organic material is fully oxidized and the residue will contain anions (like chloride) and cations. For further analysis, you will need however another technique like ion chromatography or ICP (as pointed out by Alan Paine). It is unclear how you can discriminate between organic chlorine and total chlorine by this combustion technique.
