That's a question outdoors columnist Steve Meyer mulled over in his latest piece, saying that bears should be viewed with respect — not with an irrational fear that can bolster false narratives.

Alaska Legislature rejects 8 of governor’s 12 executive orders →

The Alaska Legislature rejected eight of 12 executive orders issued by Gov. Dunleavy earlier this year, in a rebuke of his broad use of executive power. Most of the orders sought to eliminate a variety of public oversight boards and transfer powers to members of the governor’s administration.

After Matt Hall and Jessie Holmes took second and third place, the top mushers this year included veterans and a second-year racer.

To earn a sixth championship, “this one was supposed to be hard. It had to be special. It had to be more than just the normal Iditarod — and for me, it was,” Seavey said.

Iditarod CEO Rob Urbach said in Nome that the organization is waiting to get full necropsy reports back on the three dogs that have died so far in this year's race, adding: "If there's something we can learn from this, I'm sure we'll apply it going forward."

A post from a social media page for New Hampshire musher Bailey Vitello’s team said the snowmachine “came down the trail recklessly driving and clipped one of the dogs on the team.” The Iditarod said neither the dogs nor the musher were injured.
