Forwarded this email? for more Feed Me is a daily business newsletter read by the hottest bankers, their husbands, and their babysitters. The good stuff usually happens below the paywall. If you have a tip or want to work together, email [email protected] - THE FEED ME HQ IS CLOSED FOR VACATION. I'LL BE BACK IN THE OFFICE ON AUGUST Emily Sundberg Jul 29 READ IN APP Good morning everyone. This letter was auto-scheduled from the Athens airport on Monday morning. In a world where jargon about “signing off” and “mental health” feels inescapable, I’m giving it a shot. I’ll be back in the office on August 14th. From then on, I have plans to go back-to-school mode in order to make Feed Me (which was recently described as “luxury good” by one of my particular friends in media) the best newsletter on the internet. I have a few letters I’ll be sending out between now and the end of my vacation because I already started working on them, and I could also see myself sending a rogue audio note from a rock in the middle of the Cyclades at some point. - GET A JOB. The Feed Me Job Board is back. Earlier this year, I made a very scrappy public Google Doc that housed reader-submitted classifieds — it was completely free to access and submit listings, and every time I opened the doc it was flooded with little anonymous Google users. As far as I know, two dozen readers got jobs from it. But it was a nightmare to keep up, so in order to bring this back and get my audience’s employment rates back up, I had to do some organizing. Classifieds can be purchased on a sliding scale from $100–$300 for a month of placement. I know businesses of all sizes read Feed Me, and I trust you'll pay what you can. Once you submit the form, I'll email you to set up payment details and get your listing live. - Feed Me is a reader-supported publication (thank you). To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a paid subscriber. - A MOVIE I WATCHED THIS WEEKEND. Don’t you want to watch a movie about a repressed, awkward beautiful 13-year-old boy (who has no phone) falling in love with an elusive, striking 16-year-old girl (who loves texting boys) while sharing a bedroom in a summer house on vacation? I’ve been watching less TV and more movies, and because of that have been dipping back into my Criterion subscription. . l\\“ M.’ :m'?‘. &fl.fi!l{! > 41".‘-' e Falcon Lake is a ghost story and a love story and a narrative about boyhood. It also has one of the best teen party scenes I’ve seen in a film, which includes Fortnite dance moves that look really cool. I rewatched the party scene three times. At one point I called my boyfriend in from another room to tell me how he thought some of the shots were done because they were so gorgeous and surprising. You guys know I like summer movies that are dark, creepy, and romantic so this was a nice break from the cheery Olympic games that were on my TV all weekend. These are all nice summer movies as well. - A BOOK I READ LAST WEEK. My friend Austin Tedesco gave me a copy of Early Work by Andrew Martin for my birthday. It was about falling in love with someone you’d met once (while in a relationship) and derailing your life because of it. The characters are all hyper-literary. In a review for The New York Times in 2018, Molly Young said the book mixed “directionless with youth.” She specifically said, “If I were a millionaire I’d start a foundation to subsidize novels like it, because I worry about them. It’s not a book that will inspire hot takes or incendiary tweets; the author is unfashionably male and the concerns unfashionably universal. It’s an accomplished and delightful book, but there’s no hashtag for that.” Don’t know about the subsidize part, but the book is about a specific type of over-educated white guy who hits vape pens and quotes David Foster Wallace that for better or worse hit slightly too close to home for me. I bought the author’s second book, a collection of short stories called Cool for America, at Barnes and Noble in Park Slope last night. - RECENT SUMMER DINNERS. Hand rolls at Katsuei, cavatelli and burgers at Red Hook Tavern. Boat sandwich from a deli on Long Island, oysters and sausages at Le Rock with Alison Roman, Delia Cai, and Kyle Chayka. - Thank you for reading Feed Me. Take care of yourselves this summer! I’ll be checking my email every night over an icy glass of tsipouro, [email protected] You're currently a free subscriber to Feed Me. For the full experience, upgrade your subscription.
